January 3, 2022 - Tucson Desert Harmony has officially accepted an invitation from Region 21 Golden West to compete in the 2022 Sweet Adelines International Competition. The international competition will be hosted in Phoenix, Arizona in September of 2022.
The chorus is competing in place of Harborlites. Under the direction of Master Director Pam Pieson, Harborlites has won multiple regional and international awards over the years. Most recently they were 2019 Champions of Region 21 and a 2019 Sweet Adelines International Silver Medalist. The chorus has opted against competition in 2022, shifting their focus toward rebuilding membership following two difficult pandemic years.
Although Tucson Desert Harmony is excited to accept this unexpected opportunity, their hearts go out to their singing family in Harborlites Chorus.
"On behalf of Tucson Desert Harmony, we are very sorry to hear that Harborlites Chorus is unable to compete in the 2022 International Contest," says Tucson Director and past Regional Management Team member Karen Meade.
"It is our hope that Pam and the talented singers of Harborlites are able to return to in-person rehearsals soon and that your membership is healthy and happy in the year to come."
Tucson Desert Harmony currently has 32 singers, and may add more in advance of the fall International contest. The performance will be for evaluation only, in the capacity of assistance chorus.
