Join Club 21 January 13 - 15, 2012 in San Bernardino, CA to prepare your quartet for the “Big Dance” (competition!) Sharpen your individual approach to singing with a free personal voice lesson.  Experience coaching at its finest for your quartet! Learn how to approach artistry and interpretation with Lori Lyford, explore how music selection affects all four judging categories with Jana Gutenson, learn some simple techniques to help unify your quartet both musically and visually.

             In addition to classes taught by International Faculty and Regional Champion Quartet singers, we will celebrate our newest quartets as well as our experienced singers in an all out Quartet Celebration Showcase on Saturday evening, also featuring the Club 21 Chorus!  Don’t miss this fabulous event this coming January!

7:30 PM – 8:30 PM    Welcome to the FUTURE of Barbershop Singing!
Emo and friends explore the new digital world and how you can use it to your advantage! Special guest coach appearance via SKYPE!
8:45 PM – 9:30 PM    Not Just Black Dots on a Page – Part I
Lori guides us through artistry techniques using musical lines and lyrics to enhance the flow of our musical interpretation!
9:30 PM - 10:30 PM   The Quartet Shuffle!
Join hostesses Chris Robertson and friends in Quartet Matching Party!  Chris will explore what types of voices fit well together into quartets; and then matching those people together into quartets or double quartets.  Please utilize the music and learning tracks on the Region 21 website as your musical selections.  Learn more than one part if you wish!  We’ll be using “When I Take My Sugar to Tea,” “Tuxedo Junction,” and “Yesterday.”

A strong, flexible and relaxed body is the optimal singing instrument. Zumba instructor extraordinaire Erin Sears leads us all through a fun dance to warm up our bodies!
9:00 AM – 10:00 AM  Vocal Flexibility through Amazing Exercises for  ALL SINGERS!
Ashley Estrada leads you through vocal warm-ups and thoroughly explains the purpose and goal of each exercise! You don’t want to miss this as not only as this will be a great time to develop a unified quartet approach to warming up; there will be great information to pass along to your choruses as well!
10:15 AM - 11:00 AM Not Just Black Dots on a Page – Part II
International Music Judge Jana gives us some insight for how to improve our music category scores!  She’ll help us find and conquer those musical traps!
11:15 AM - 12:15 PM Not Just Black Dots – Joint Coaching Session!
Putting the rubber to the road!  Lori and Jana jointly coach the finer points of music and expression for Ballads – 2 quartets have the opportunity to be coached in this session! The rest of us can see these techniques in action!
12:15 PM – 2:00 PM  Lunch on your own

2:00 PM – 3:00 PM  It’s Not Just Contest Prep Time!
Get unified with your quartet as Unlimited shares their rehearsal tips – from vowel matching to unified musical interpretation… A day in the life of an Unlimited rehearsal!
3:30 PM – 4:45 PM Hair, Makeup, and Costumes – OH MY!
Former Champions Hypnotic will give you tips and tricks for planning, purchasing, and performing the all too important preparation of hair, make-up, and costumes!  Live demonstration (volunteers?) on short hair, medium length hair, and long hair; as well as information on some really great places to find costumes and shoes! This is a lab type class, so you will have the opportunity to try out the hair and makeup techniques during the latter portion of the class.

Starting with the basics of pitch pipe technique and walk-ons to packaging your songs, learn how to present yourselves effectively in contest and in shows.
10:30 AM - 11:45 AM The Finishing Touch
Emo presents additional visual tips and tricks for enhancing the overall performance, both musically and visually!
11:45 AM - 12:00 AM Wrap-up
Question and answer time for all participants and faculty.

AIRPORT TRANSPORTATION

Transportation will be provided to and from Ontario International from Thursday, 1/12/12 through Sunday, 1/15/12 between the hours of 7:00 AM and 9:00 PM at the rate of $20.00 per person round trip.
